On Saturday Nic Bourne and Patrick Gaskins in the Swift double, together with Adam Livett in his single scull, competed in the 15 kilometre Dartmouth Totnes head.

A lovely early summer day, with light air and sunshine saw the crews assemble near the chain ferry below Brittania College in Dartmouth. With a start of over 60 boats ranging from coastal racers to paddle boarders, the organisation was very efficient.

The water was fairly smooth all the way, with little traffic, and plenty of space. The distance rolled by surprisingly quickly, and the atmosphere was friendly and welcoming as usual.

Nic and Patrick did very well in the double, narrowly missing class third place due to confusion around one of the course markers (time 51.42 - 16th overall). Adam took a more leisurely approach (time 69.17), but still managed to avoid being the back marker.

As ever Totnes put on an excellent spread at the finish, and organisation was exemplary.

A terrific day for everyone, and thoroughly recommended.
